I joined CrossFit to get stronger and it serves as a nice outlet between work and school.

After graduating high school, I didn’t have sports to keep me in shape anymore and I tried going to the gym but never really knew how to program a good/effective workout. Running eventually became my only form of exercise because it was something I knew how to do and it was part of my job as an official for Ohio State’s intramural program. Running kept me in shape for a while, but I didn’t feel strong, it didn’t have a competitive factor, and I don’t actually like running.

I was first introduced to CrossFit a little over two years ago, in 2019. I attended a class at Always Forward CrossFit in Granville, OH and I remember the first movement I learned was med-ball cleans, and then my legs were sore for the next week. But I really liked learning the new movements and the community. After returning to school, I looked for a more local gym so I attended a few classes here at Clintonville. I didn’t join right away due to my school schedule and then eventually the lockdown, but August rolled around and I was ready to be back in a gym.

Since joining Clintonville, I feel stronger doing everyday activities. I like the support from the coaches and other members during workouts. I can feel myself progressing as I am participating in workouts that I would have struggled with a year ago. I think I actually told someone that I didn’t hate doing burpees. A bold statement. But I do look forward to progressing in weights and movements, like double unders and toes to bar.

All in all, CrossFit has really helped me realize I can do things that I didn’t think I could do. I am excited to see the progress I’ll make a year from now.
