3 Reasons you should do the Open

Every year CrossFit puts on a worldwide competition known as the CrossFit Games in order to find the worlds fittest man, women, team, adaptive athlete, master, and teen.

The Open is the first step in this process.

CrossFit HQ will release one workout a week starting Feb 16 for three weeks that athletes can attempt over the course of the weekend. Once that athlete settles on their best score they will submit it online IF they signed up and paid the $20 registration fee through CrossFit HQ. If they finish in the top 10% they move to the quarterfinals where they’ll compete on an online competition. Then from there to semifinals and if they’re that good, the Nobull CrossFit Games.

However most of us just want to workout and be in great shape, not be the fittest on earth…so then why should you do the Open? Here’s three reasons to consider:

  1. Measure your fitness

The Open is every year and everyone does them, so you can see how you stack up against other people your age and athletic ability. You can see where you rank worldwide if you sign up, and you can try the workout again 3, 6, 12 months later to measure your fitness level.

  2. It’s all about community

At CFC and many other CrossFit gyms, we do Friday Night Lights. This is where we as a community attempt the workouts the following Friday night after the workout is announced on Thursday. Of course you can do them whenever, but at FNL you get the atmosphere to push yourself harder than you might normally, and you can bring a drink to celebrate. (Jameson anyone?)

  3. Get on a team for the first ever Intramural Open

Our coaches at CFC have decided to put on their own competition, and this one is free. Sign up online or at the chalkboard in class to be randomly added to a team where your open scores will be apart of the larger teams overall score. Get to know someone at the gym you might not know and do fun activities outside the Open to earn points. Ask your coach for more info!!
